| Danny Coleman got his start at WBYG
just like a lot of the Goodtimers. "I was 16 when I started at WBYG so that was 1966. Mel Mixon was the major trainer I had. I used to run the board for him and he would talk for the longest, then he would let me do the whole thing. Also I spent some training time with Jerry Katz. I have a very funny story about Jerry training me. He was telling me how to time into network and realized that he had missed it. You remember how Mutual news would do the headlines and then spots and come back and do the stories. Well, he hit the 5 sec WBYG jingle and hit network and it went something like this:. "WBYG[jingle] ... shrinks hemorrhoids.This is Del Shaberk with Mutual news.", Jerry turned red from the neck up. " Danny I found Danny's aircheck on the end of a tape that had one of my airchecks on it. I've been listening to these tapes all the way out to the end because many of them will not make it over the heads again. I'm glad I found this one and thanks to Danny for letting me put up on the web. |
