A letter from David Blair:
Holy potentiometers, Batman! It's ME!
Here I am checking your website, and I see an
aircheck of me on SGA covering for O'Brien.
That was the first week I worked there- doing 6 hour morning drive shifts
because I also was covering for the 9 to noon guy (whose name escapes me
at the moment.)
I had the worst airshift of my career that Wednesday. Oddly, that
airshift was what made me like J.R. so much- I came out of the studio
(remember how it was right over Jerry's office?) and came around the
walkway over the lobby. Jerry's leaning in his door, and just looks up at
me. One sentence- "You know what needs to be said." I said,
"Yeah, J.R., I know." That was it. Never another word.
It was an interesting way to handle 6 hours of
TERRIBLE radio- and the respect he gave me as a professional was deeply
appreciated. He knew I knew how bad it was, and there was no need to chew
me out.
J.R. is the best, in my book.

This tape came to me from John Quincy in
Charleston. It's a real treasure in that it contains such a broad slice of
the WSGA morning show format.
Chef Leftover, Dennis with the news, a Dennis Earth
News broadcast (listen for the blooper and remember this feature was
pre-taped).
Disco WSGA with a classic Goodtimer Series 18 jingle
thrown in for weirdness.
Thanks to John Quincy (real name Ted Tatman)
for sending this one along. And thanks to David Blair for a great morning
of radio from the 70's.
Lyndy
