Brent Alberts arrived at WSGA in an old Chevrolet, with no
job and flat tires. At least that's how I recall the story. Operations manager and
longtime WSGA PM driver Danny Kramer, just back from the navy reserve and feeling
generous traded out some tires and gave Brent a job.
There was a guy named Hugh D who worked middays on WSGA. I
don't have any tape of Hugh, but I remember him as a darkly funny guy who sat on a stool
in the control room rather than using the chair. I think his real name was Hugh Downer.
Wonder where he is today?
When Hugh left Scott McCleod came to Savannah to do
middays . Again this is how I remember it, there may have been some folks in between. Scotty was a
skinny guy with lots of on-air energy. This Scott
McCleod aircheck was at the tail end of one of my personal airchecks. I wouldn't
have found it if I hadn't gone through the entire tape.
Also in Savannah in the early seventies was our Bob
Roberts. Real name Tony Nuzzo who came to WSGA from WJAT in Swainsboro. WJAT was a
legendary station among young disk jockeys in this part of the world. The station was
located in a building that had housed a theater I believe, I have a less powerful memory
that says it was a closed bowling alley.
